Machine Rotor Dynamics upon Large Load Rejection
The rotor dynamics of a large synchronous machine were analyzed for multiple transient events to identify the prospective frequency rate of change in order to adequately calculate anti-islanding rate-of-change-of-frequency (ROFOC) elements.
The analysis identified a minimum threshold for the element sensitivity which ensured that line faults would be identified, but that nuisance operation would not occur for the largest expected load rejection within the facility.
